“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” -MLK
Martin Luther King Jr is one of the United States’ most famous civil-rights activists. MLK Day is a Federal holiday observed on the 3rd Monday of January. This holiday honors his legacy as one of the leaders of the civil rights movement.
Today we honor a man that dedicated his life to achieving racial equality and social justice in our country. He promoted a practice of nonviolence throughout his efforts against racial and social discrimination.
Dr. King presented his famous “I Have a Dream” speech, in 1963, before a million people during the peaceful March in Washington, D.C. Shortly after, he became the youngest man to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. His selfless sacrifices to win civil rights for all people through nonviolent means, put an end to segregation in the United States.
We’d like to highlight one of Dr. King’s most famous statements:
“Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?”
What are you doing for others? A simple question that ignites a powerful answer.
